Why choose to have a Chemical Peel?
If you are looking for a skin resurfacing treatment that will exfoliate away the layers of dead skin cells on the face, this may be the treatment for you. Chemical peels are a great way to treat a variety of skin conditions including dry skin, fine lines and wrinkles, acne, pigmentation and rosacea
What are Chemical Peels?

Contrary to popular belief, chemical peels are a safe and effective treatment for a number of skin concerns and nothing to fear! During a peel, glycolic, lactic or salicylic acid (to name a few) are applied to the skin. These acids break down the bonds between the dead skin cells on the surface of the face, encouraging exfoliation and renewal. Most peels available are light or medium depth, meaning they only work on the top layer of skin (the epidermis). You will notice a difference following one chemical peel, however multiple are needed to get the desired results and treat more stubborn skin conditions.
You can treat a variety of skin concerns with chemical peels including wrinkles, acne scars and skin discolouration. The peels available at Coral Aesthetics are suitable for all skin types, including skin of colour Fitzpatrick Scale IV, V &VI. You will have a consultation to ensure you are suitable beforehand and your first peel is always superficial and gentle. You may experience some mild discomfort, heat or itching during your peel and this is a normal reaction. You must not use retinol or other skin resurfacing treatments/products in the days leading up to your treatment. You may need to return 2-4 weeks later for a second procedure. Following your treatment it is advised to avoid heat to the face, refrain from wearing makeup and do not apply any products other than those recommended for 5-7 days following. It is also essential that you protect the skin daily with sunscreen factor 30 or higher.

What happens during a Chemical Peel?

This is not a fluffy facial! We use active ingredients to get results. No heat is allowed on the skin, so there will be minimal massage and no facial steaming to make sure your peel is safe and effective. Every peel is hyper-customised to suit the needs of the individual. Here is a basic outline of steps:

• The skin is prepared with a deep cleanse
• The pH of the skin is prepped using a special solution
• An enzyme mask gets to work to start the exfoliation process
• The chemical peel is applied and left to work on the skin for 5-20 minutes
• The chemical peel is neutralised
• Boosters may be added to target specific skin issues
• Recovery of the skin is initiated with the application of soothing balms
• SPF is applied
• You can rebook for your next peel as advised
Who is suitable for treatment?

Chemical peels are not suitable for everyone. Your nurse will carry out a full medical consultation to ensure you are suitable.

You may not be able to have chemical peel treatment if:

- You have allergies to ingredients including aspirin
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You frequently use sunbeds
- You have an active skin infection
- You have active cold sores
