What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections are used to address fine to moderate lines in the face caused by repetitive muscle movement as well as a number of other concerns. Brand names you may be familiar with are BOTOX, Azzalure and BoCouture. They contain something known as a ‘neuromodulator’ which is injected directly into the active muscle. This has the specific task of blocking the nerve signals which tell the muscles to contract. Once the muscle has stopped contracting, the skin no longer folds with movement which results in a smoother appearance to the treated area.
Anti-wrinkle injections work incredibly well on areas of expression such as frown lines caused by frowning. This process is only temporary as the nerve endings are replaced after some time and muscle movement comes back!
Anti-wrinkle injections must only be administered after a face to face consultation and prescription with a medical professional such as a Doctor or Nurse Prescriber. This is because whilst they are frequently and safely used in beauty treatments, they are still prescription medicines used to treat medical conditions such as neck spasms, chronic migraine and overactive bladders. This means that there are side effects and complications that must be taken into consideration and a full consultation with a medical professional will ensure you are suitable for treatment.

How long does treatment last?
​
The results of your treatment will not be immediate and will take up to 2 weeks to fully work. You can expect your anti-wrinkle treatment to last 3-4 months, however this depends on a number of variables such as severity of wrinkles, if you smoke, your metabolism or exposure to sunlight/heat.

How long your results last can also depend on the area treated. Treatments such as lip flip will not last as long as treatment for excessive sweating which can last up to 6 months.
Which areas can be treated?

The main 3 areas we often treat are the forehead, frown and around the eyes (crows feet).
Anti-wrinkle treatment can also be used to slim the jawline, lift the brows, stop nasal flaring and reduce excess gum from showing when smiling. It is also possible to improve excessive sweating in the underarms with the same medicine.

Who is suitable for treatment?

Anti-wrinkle injections are safe for most people. Your nurse will carry out a full medical consultation to ensure you are suitable.

You cannot have anti-wrinkle injection treatment if:

- You have a neuromuscular condition such as Myasthenia Gravis
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You are under 18 years of age
- You have had an allergic reaction in the past
